Frozen fish and seafood continues to grow and has established itself as one of the most important for Spain. Now we want to talk about figures, and not only about them, but also about what they mean.
A consolidated sector
It has always been said that Spain lives from tourism, from the hotel and catering industry, from what we can offer the sector to tourists, especially European tourists, who spend their vacations here. It is true that the hotel and catering business and tourism are very important sectors. However, it is also true that frozen fish and seafood is one of the most fruitful sectors.
According to Conxemar the frozen fish and seafood sector invoiced in 2015 more than 9,000 million euros. This income means, of course, many jobs, it is said that around 17,000 people are employed in the sector.
It is a business in which it is hardly possible to take production where cheaper labor is offered. We are also happy about this because of these 17,000 people who make their living in the sector, almost 80% work in the factory. We are talking about 13,000 people working in the frozen fish and seafood industries.
Leading the way
While in the United States they talk about their Bermuda triangle, the one that made every ship that crossed it end up lost in the ocean, in Spain we can talk about another triangle in which the economy of the State does nothing but find itself. It is the triangle formed by Galicia, Andalusia and Catalonia. These three extremes of the country are the ones that bring the most benefits to the frozen fish and seafood sector.
Frozen fish and seafood among other maritime sectors
The importance of the frozen sector in relation to the rest of the maritime sector is very large. In the canning sector, also with good figures, there is talk of 3,000 million euros invoiced. Thus we place the frozen sector as the “big fish” of the maritime industries.
Year after year, the frozen food industry is becoming more and more established in the food sector. When we talk about fish and seafood, little by little, the public has been admiring the quality, forgetting the old myths about frozen food. It is a source of pride that today it is one of the most prosperous sectors in the country.
