Frozen fish is the best option to save a little time in the kitchen. Trusting Mariscos Apolo you know that the quality and flavor of their products is guaranteed. But, do you know the best way to defrost it to maintain its properties and do it properly? There are three ways of defrosting that will be very useful for you.
3 ways to defrost
1- Defrosting in the refrigerator
Of all the ways to thaw frozen fish, thawing it in the refrigerator is the best option. This way the product will gradually reach room temperature.
Thawing fish in the refrigerator takes longer, but you will know that you are doing it the best way. In addition, the product stays fresh in the refrigerator. Remember to take it out the night before and put it in the refrigerator covered. The defrosting time of the fish will be between 12h- 24h so that it is ready to be cooked.
2- Thawing with cold water
If you have less time to thaw your fish or you forgot to take it out the night before, thawing with cold water is the best way to do it.
This way, the frozen product will come to room temperature in a natural way, although a little faster when using water.
To do this you should put the fish in a hermetically sealed plastic bag. Then submerge it in a container with cold water. With the difference in temperature between the cold water and the cold of the frozen fish, it will thaw gradually and without risk. Remember to change the water every 20-30 minutes so that the temperature difference is maintained and the fish thaws satisfactorily.
We recommend that although hot water can speed up the thawing process, always use cold water as hot water can modify the texture and flavor of the fish.
3- Defrosting in the microwave
When time is short, the easiest and fastest way is to defrost the fish in the microwave. This way the product reaches room temperature quickly, although you will have to make sure that the product is not cooked, provided that this is not your wish, since you are going to cook it using another means.
To do this there are two basic things: use the microwave defrost option and put the fish in a closed container. With this way of defrosting the fish in the microwave it keeps its flavor and texture, resulting in a delicious fish dish. Even so, we advise you to follow these recommendations:
- Select a defrosting program suitable for fish.
- The piece of fish that you are going to defrost should have enough space so that it can turn and the defrosting takes place uniformly.
- Keep an eye on the fish to turn it over if necessary so that the heat is distributed and the fish thaws evenly in all directions.
- If the piece of fish is very large, it is best to cut it up and thaw it several times to make sure it thaws properly.
With any of these three ways of thawing you will ensure that your fish is thawed in the best way and ready to cook your best recipes.
