June 8, World Oceans Day
In 2008 the United Nations (UN) Assembly established June 8 as World Oceans Day. The date was set by the UN with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of the oceans and informing about the great impact that we humans have on it, so through this day is intended to develop an initiative in order to unite among us and to help globally to the sustainability of our ocean and planet.
A great source of life and sustenance for all organisms on earth is our great ocean, which covers more than 70% of the planet and has the function of contributing to climate change and energy and food supply. In other words, it is the lungs of the world.
Numerous marine species have become extinct because of the thousands of tons of waste that have polluted the waters. Without forgetting climate change, which is representing a great future threat, thus producing a huge imbalance of climate throughout the planet and its uncontrolled temperatures.
As an initiative to improve this situation, we could all contribute to help in various ways:
- Keeping beaches clean
- Reduce the use of plastics: as an alternative we suggest using cloth bags, buying products in bulk, eliminating the use of straws…
- Do not contribute to marine exploitation and support institutions that care for the seas.
- Reduce CO2 emissions
- Do not waste water, turning off the tap while we wash our hands or teeth, take a shower instead of a bath, use the washing machine when it is full.
From Mariscos Apolo we want to join the help of our planet and our waters contributing our small grain of sand, so, all together we can achieve great changes in the improvement of the planet.
Join the help, every little gesture counts!
