Reasons to buy frozen fish (and our offers)

Why is it worth buying frozen fish? In our previous post we were already talking about the great virtues of Omega 3, a fundamental fatty acid in our diet that comes largely from fish consumption. Today we are going to remind you that we have a series of offers to buy frozen fish in the middle of January -each month we will remind you of the offers in force-, but not before remembering some reasons why these products are recommended.

Beyond the qualities of fresh or wild fish -which are obviously many-, frozen fish offers a guarantee against anisakis, a parasite that can cause serious digestive disorders. Anisakis dies when subjected to freezing temperatures, and if this process has been carried out after fishing, at sea, the chances of contamination are completely reduced. So the first reason to buy frozen fish has to do with food safety. And beware, marinades and vinegars are not enough to avoid it.

The nutritional characteristics of this product are not only not lost by freezing, but remain intact. Moreover, as they are frozen in the same boat that catches them, without the need for brine, they do not suffer the effects of rigor mortis and the loss of proteins, so it follows that a fish thawed at home can be as fresh or fresher than one bought in a fishmonger’s. Do we know how long a specimen has spent in a warehouse or cold storage, how many hours it has been waiting in a market until it has traveled, better or worse, to the counter where we see it? If it is not our trusted fishmonger, trusting him can be expensive.

In addition to this, there are advantages that we all know: buying frozen fish is cheaper, the presentation is more practical and easy to handle, it will last much longer in the refrigerator, etc. And if the cold chain has been well respected, the nutrients are still there and the cooking quality will give us the same result.

In fact, we are the leading EU producer of frozen fish, according to the data that at the last Conxemar fair revealed the Minister of Agriculture, Miguel Arias Cañete. We were again present at the fair, as it could not be otherwise (we already told you about it in this blog) and the truth is that the movement and the economy generated by the companies dedicated to these products is incredible. We are talking about 18,390 people working in 687 Spanish companies, with sales exceeding 4,000 million euros.
