It has been more than half a century since Apollo Seafood we have been working with seafood for more than half a century. In seafood we trust (or what is the same, in seafood we believe) we could say, making a wink to the well-known official motto of the USA ‘In god we trust’ (In God we trust). One of our main attractions is shrimp, which we sell to large supermarket chains as well as to small stores and restaurants in different formats.
Shrimp, as you know, is distinguished by its large size and intense red color. The pieces can reach up to 30 centimeters, although the usual average is around 10-20 centimeters. This crustacean, also known as carabinera shrimp, usually inhabits the waters of the Mediterranean and the Eastern Atlantic, between 500 and 2,000 meters deep.
Its exquisite meat is ideal for grilled, steamed or confit cooking, but also as an ingredient for rice dishes and purees. It is also a very popular product for soups due to its intense flavor. The head retains much of its essence, so it is often used to prepare seafood broths and sauces.
The shrimp is marketed throughout the year, either fresh, cooked, frozen or cooked frozen. However, it is one of the most demanded seafoods in frozen form, which can be frozen either at sea (in these cases it is known as shrimp on board) or on land. In both cases, the shrimp we sell follow strict quality controls with state-of-the-art technology -both on refrigerated vessels and in our own facilities- that guarantee 100% of their nutritional values and preservation so that their exquisite meat does not lose its characteristic flavor and texture.
When buying frozen shrimp, it is advisable to differentiate its varieties, but above all not to confuse it with the Moray prawn, which has a similar taste although smaller. similar taste although smaller, as we explained inas we explained in a previous article. We summarize the varieties of shrimp that we sell wholesale and retail:
- Argentine shrimp ground in boxes of 2 kilos: as we have previously mentioned, this cooked shrimp is frozen on land, as its own name indicates. The pieces are ready to defrost, serve directly and enjoy its delicious flavor.
- Argentine shrimp on board in 2 kg boxes: unlike the land shrimp, this variety, also cooked, is frozen at sea. Like the previous one, it comes ready for tasting.
- Argentine raw shrimp loose in 5 kg box: this format is one of the most demanded by restaurants, since it is raw and can be cooked to taste.
- Mozambique shrimp in boxes of 800 grams: this large variety differs from the Argentine shrimp because of its characteristic spots or “pints” on the shell. Because of its shape it is commonly known as ‘knife’ shrimp, although its official commercial name is banana shrimp.
- Shrimp tails on board and land in boxes of 2 kilos: Tasty Argentine shrimp tails both on board and land. A finger-licking delicacy.
